Outside-the-box note: Cinema4D scales from 1-core to 4-core by a
factor of 360 %, which isn't bad :) [unless hair simulation is
involved - those pre-render passes are 1-core only]
Not sure. Learning to use a 3-d software is something that never really
ends ;) I've started with Cinema some 10 years ago and have been
following it ever since. I've dabbled with Blender every now and then
(and i've seen impressive things like the simulation of liquids it can
do), but its frontend and tools concept just doesn't work for me.
As for the scaling to multiple CPU's: I guess with the overhead of
splitting/coordinating, a "1+1 = 1.8" is about as good as it gets. Don't
know how/if blender handles this, so i can't comment on that.
A bit more related to the original topic:
Batch Stitching seems b0rken AGAIN in Stitcher 5.5.4 - had a three-jobs
list running over night, got all the warped and aligned sources in the
temp directory, but NO output. That problem was also mentioned on the
Realviz forums, which i did not check beforehand...
Since i checked "keep temp images", i've now got a chance to push them
through the shell scripted stand-alone enblend/smartblend/whatever-blend
that Realviz had at some point in the past included in the distribution,
so it's not like the whole night was just for electrically heating my
working room by means of electric blower ;)
[Warning: rant follows, and most likely to the wrong recipient. But
Realviz should be aware of the bug reports by now, anyway.]
Still, it's frustrating to see the same <insert-colorful-metaphor-here>
happen with every <more-colorful-metaphor-here> update. It's like:
"Version.0 is out. Great new stitcher quality! Loads of new features!"
Oooh, shiny. Me Like. Me Go Buy Update.
"Oh, batch is broken for now, sorry. On Mac. But look at the features!"
Along comes Version.0.something, batch processing is fixed again.
Rinse and repeat ad infinitum.
The updates do come at no discernible intervals anyway, so why not
bother with, i don't know, actually TRYING OUT the secondary features of
the product before it's shipped?
[End rant.]
Sorry for the rant. (partially) broken things irritate me to no end, no
matter if they're free or paid for.
I need to point out that the 5.5.4 stitching/blending results are among
the best i've seen so far. Even "nasty" sets like a three-court tennis
hall with a wooden repeating grid structure as a ceiling, and me being
too lazy to check the camera for "auto white balance OFF", do stitch
with no problems now.
The only thing i fear is that the next bugfix may be for 5.6 only...
