Google it, of course. Lots of good info out there. Forsman & Bodenfors was the production company. I remember reading about it in the Softimage forum (Softimage was the 3D program used) and at least one online article. I've been wondering about doing something like it based on object VR. The live action elements would be difficult to integrate without the shooting speed possible with a motion control rig, but it would interesting to try.
