I see where you're coming from, but I don't take such a dark view of this. Sure, it isn't correct, but I don't think that it has made such moves any more likely.


I wouldn't go as far as to say it was a specifically good thing to have done, but it has shown a definite level of feeling against the concept with just one poorly-presented petition.

(I did look into it when I heard about it, but that's because that's an ingrained instinct, having been involved in magazine journalism and so on for so long. I'm not at all surprised that so many people take it at face value.)
