(no subject)

Hi All-

I'm finally switching from film to a digital SLR, building a custom pano head with a click-stop, for a camera with a choice of (equivalent) 21mm and 30mm lenses. I have everything just about finalized except for one thing: deciding on how much overlap should be between shots.

What is the general consensus these days on that subject? I use Stitcher 5.1 right now, and that seems to imply that it can get away with a small amount of overlap - 20% or so. Other pages on the web say that you should have at least 33%, and others say even 40%.

I'm sure that the ideal # of shots also depends on how much exposure change happens as you rotate around, and if people are moving in a scene.

I can set the clickwheel system for 2 (maybe 3 if I can push it) choices for # of stops. 8 stops gets me 24% overlap on the 21mm (equiv.) - do I want to bring that up to 9 for 32.5%? 12 stops gets me 31% on the 30mm (equiv.) - is that enough if I'm shooting outside at sunset?

Any feedback would be appreciated, and of course I'm on a deadline, so sooner rather than later would be GREATLY appreciated!
