Did I share this with you folks already? I don't think so.
08-Jan-2008 08:22 PM Jaime Magiera: Summary: The entire QTVR API is
stuck in C and 32-bit Steps to Reproduce: Read the warning in QTVR and
QTAtom API. Note that the API has not been updated in many years.
Expected Results: Expect that Apple sees the potential of QTVR in
education, science, entertainment and creativity. Actual Results:
Despite a community that wishes very much to still use the technology,
null comments or support from Apple regarding the future of the API.
Regression: QTVR is suffering regression through neglect. Notes: Now
more than ever, QTVR and interactivity can be used in education,
science and entertainment. For the past few years, my business
(Sensory Research) has been developing applications that utilizes
QVTVR and QT Interactive for these exact purposes. I also work for a
large university (U of M) that has used QTVR for everything from art
to Geological specimens. If you continue to support the API, it can
integrate technologies such as X3D and interact the various virtual
worlds. The potential of QTVR with iphones and portables is
astounding. The two can help sell each other. The money is there and
the developers will stay if there is some sort of commitment from
Apple. Updating the API to work in 64-bit would really say something
to the community. It would also poise Apple to hook a bunch of new
talent (developers) and cash in on the virtual cash cow that is
grazing out in the commercial world right now. (and again, it's just
atoms) Thanks. 08-Jan-2008 10:08 PM Jaime Magiera: Also, I'm a
professional member of IVRPA. As a group and individually, we feel a
strong desire to continue using QuickTIme VR into the future. In other
words, there are strong developer, content creator and user
communities that rely on QTVR. thanks.
26-Feb-2008 04:28 PM Stoney Gamble: Engineering has provided the
following feedback regarding this issue: The QTVR atom structures have
been exposed to 64bit clients in QT 7.4. The intention is for API
functionality to remain 32bit.
