I'm trying to imagine a scenario in which QTVR would *need* to be 64-
bit capable. There really wouldn't be anything to gain from it, from
the 3 seconds of hard thinking about it I just did. I doubt anyone
has a QTVR movie over 4Gb in size, and the iPhone is a 32-bit
platform.
What did you have in mind?
Well, this is from a developers standpoint and a user standpoint.
From the low-level QTVR developer side, not having an API that
handles 64-bit is a setback for writing apps. Also, as time
progresses, Apple will likely shed 32-bit only API.
From the user perspective, I think QTVR needs to move beyond just 32-
bit, web-based content to survive. Little movies on the inter-tubes is
all fine and dandy. However, for something like interactive, living
room QTVR, more bits will be needed.
In general, I think QTVR survivability depends on making it appealing
to the more interactive, high quality generation of users. That's
actually what's been taking so long getting my application done. I'm
trying to develop a system whereby QTVR really shines in terms of
interactivity and integration with other media.
