Re: lightweight/portable QTVR setup for mountaineering/hiking

Ayrton,

Thanks.

For the 5D/Tokina107 I use the RRS MPR-1 rail - it is 152mm long

For the 5D/Nikkor10 I use the RRS MPR-113 rail - it is 113mm long

The switched to the RRS rails because they are better than the Kirk, but I still like the Kirk quick releases QRC-1 and QRC 1.75.

I had a typing error on my last url:

Hi Ayrton,

Hello Jook
First of all
let me tell you that YOU inspired me a lot !
I've always admire your work from long years back.
THANKS for giving me high standards to try to follow.
I've learned a lot with your posts.
Here in Brazil, whenever I speak with a new Client I talk about your name as THE "inspiring panographer"

Now, back to techs :-)
Thanks for all links below.
On the KIRK rails ... they have 6 different models ... which one are you using ???

Thanks and keep on the gppd wprk

Cheers

AYRTON

Here is the parts list from bottom to top:

JustRite brackets (the four legged thing)
JRB 300 small light stand $20.
Acratech Leveling Base $150

Bogen / Manfrotto   625 (3296) RC0 Hexagonal Quick Release Set

Bogen 300N rotator

Velbon Neo Pod 6 - I cut the tip off and added a 3/8 thread

Kirk Photo quick release clamps and rails

Really Right Stuff camera body plates

All this adds weight on the bottom but makes it more stable with a top heavy camera. The Acratech leveling base is nice for none level surfaces. The quick releases make it faster to reconfigure.

One more pano from the Great Wall:
Best,
Jook

Here is one setup I used on my trip to Beijing. For the camera rig I used RRS camera brackets and Kirk Photo rails and quick releases. As you can see the monpod is free standing with a very small footprint.

This is amazing nice !!!
Would you mind sharing some of the tricks on this setup ???

I mean ... in the bottom of the upside down monopod, there's a rotator, I think it's a Bogen one ,
BUT it has 4 "legs" to hold it free standing ...
HOW ???
WHAT is that ??? these "legs" ?

And on the RRS L-bracket is it attached to a Kirk rail ???
I can not enter the Kirk website at all ... it says it is not valid adress ?!?!

THANKS

Ayrton

Cheers,
Jook
