Another advantage of Flash VR

It appears that the aspect ratio of Flash VRs is not fixed. If I create a QuickTime VR with an aspect ratio of 10 x 4, for example, 1000 pixels x 400 pixels, and someone opens it on a 4 x 3 monitor like a 1280 x 1024 and they choose "Full Screen," the aspect ratio of the QuickTime pano does not change. The viewer gets large black bars above and below the VR. So you have to make compromises and decisions based upon estimates of installed base, etc.

But with Flash, and I just tested this, If you output a wide screen ratio VR and choose "Full Screen" on a 4 x 3 monitor, the Flash VR actually fills the screen completely with no black bars. The aspect ratio is fluid and adjusts to fit the display space.

This is a tremendous improvement. It's going to be a long process and a lot of work, but I am going to reproduce all my panos on my products in Flash because of these improved features.

Apple should have kept up with things instead of letting QuickTime VR whither. But it's fantastic that Adobe has picked up the ball along with Tomas Rauscher at Pano2VR.
