The Hawaiian Monk Seal or Hawaiian name: 'Ilio holo I ka ua ua" (dog that
runs in the rough sea) is an endangered marine mammal that is endemic to the
warm, clear waters of the Hawaiian Islands. He was listed as an endangered
species in 1976 under the Federal Endangered Species Act and The population
of the Hawaiian monk seal is currently estimated to be between 1300
individuals.
