If you need to take quick panos I have not found anything better than the
Sigma 4.5mm fisheye lens.
You can make a full spherical panorama with only 3 pictures. That allows you
to be fast.
The negative side is that you will loose resolution. On a Nikon D300 all you
get is an equirectangular picture with a resolution of 4,500 x 2,250 pixels.
Do not use this lens on a full sensor digital, the final image will be even
smaller.
You can view several samples made with this lens at my web site.
The Tokina 10-17mm without a doubt is a nice lens and you can make spherical
panoramas with 4 pictures but you will need a full sensor digital camera
like the Nikon D3 or a Canon 5D.
But with 4 pictures you will have very little overlap to workout moving
people.
You can also made a panorama with only four pictures using the Nikon 10.5mm
fisheye lens (shaved) on a full sensor digital camera. Like the Nikon D3.
Those are the combos that can allow you to take fast/ quick panoramas.
Hope that helps.
Best regards from Mexico City.

Hello,
I'm preparing for the various summer conferences and realize I need
something to get quick panos. A friend of mine suggested the Tokina
10-18mm (as opposed to buying a Sigma 8mm).
