Hi,

I am pretty new to this list and have gone through the archives looking to see if there is a way of obtaining serial numbers of machines via ARD?

Not with ARD as is. Like Dave, we're scripting the process of fetching the serial number and putting it into one of ARD's custom fields. This is done as part of a whole collection of lab maintenance scripts one of my coworkers put together called ULabMin: http://www.macos.utah.edu/Documentation/ulabmin/ulabmin.html. (ULabMin .51 has a section near the bottom of the page that lists all of the scripts for individual download, ULabMin .60 has these in the Download section.)

What you specifically need is in post_maintenance.pl starting about line 140/135 (.51/.60 respectively), where it fetches the serial number and puts it in a file, and maintenance_status.pl starting about line 290/255 (.51/.60 respectively), where it sets the ARD field. Please note the Copyright section at the top of each file if you chose to use this, or just look over it to get a feel of how it can be done.
