ARD 3 and 2.2 clients

Can ARD 3 admin work with 2.2 clients without upgrading the clients? I have (and need) two 2.2 admins and just recently got one version 3 admin and want to know if I can use one of the 2.2 admins and the 3 admin concurrently? If not, I might wait to install till I get a second 3 admin so I can continue to control my clients from 2 different locations.
