PPPSerial

We've just upgraded to ARD 3 and are finding it a great improvement on version 2 - both in features and speed.

We'd appreciate some help in establishing the meaning/importance of network setting.

A user (Peter) reported slow network performance; we did an ARD system report, and in the network section his 'Primary Network' setting is displayed as PPPSerial; little or no other network info is displayed other than his mac address.
Another user (Frank) with exactly the same machine and software configuration, displays his Primary Network setting as Ethernet and his IP is shown. His machine doesn't have any speed issues.

ComputerFirst Ethernet AddressPrimary IP AddressPrimary Network
Frank Virgona00:11:24:30:CB:C010.0.2.66Ethernet
Peter Morgan00:0D:93:45:87:50PPP(PPPSerial)

Can anyone please tell us where the PPPSerial setting is coming from; can it be changed; could it be the cause of slow performance ?

Thanks

Rod Bush
