I am having a problem with ARD 3 and 10.4.8 clients. Specifically, I use the "change computer name" on a machine, and ARD tells me the change is successful and updates the computer list to reflect it. But, when the machines are rebooted, they seem to revert back to their original name. I don't recall this happening the first few times I used it... anyone got any ideas?

Hi Chris,
are using managed (Open Directory) environment or your macs are standalone? If first is the case, than the settings in the OpenDirectory (WGM -> Computer Accounts > Computer name -> use this name for managed computers) is overriding the settings you apply manually or with ARD.

Thanks for all the replies, both on-list and off.

Yes, the machines are all in an OD, I should have said this before. Does this mean I have to turn off that setting for all the computers in the computer list? I notice there is no "select all" option :-P
