screen cap of login screen

This is only slightly ARD related, but since it is and there are a lot of really knowledgeable people on the list, here goes.

login-screenshot-challenge.html

Read this the other day and thought, how hard can it be? Answer, with ARD, not hard at all. A Send Unix command as root worked like a charm:

screencapture /Users/ladmin/Desktop/"`date +"%b %e %H:%M"`.png"

I was using the date to create a timestamp filename during testing, that part is not really important. Problem is that when I ssh into an admin account on the machine, sudo su - to root, and try the same command, the screen cap is totally black. Since I figured that ARD was doing pretty much the equivalent, I was surprised. Anyone know what the difference is, or more to the point, why this doesn't work?

I also tried using launchd and cron (for root), the results from both were also black. I took out the date stamp part for these tests and just wrote to temp.png.

Bottom line, this is driving me nuts (short drive!) so I'm hoping someone can clear it up for everyone.
