It sounds as if your school macs might be on a different IP-range to the computers you can see.
Check one to see its IP-Address or, when you do a scan, set the IP- range to something like 192.168.0.0 - 192.168.3.255

Once you have activated ARD on each of the macs you will be able to update it remotely - with a single command via the menu. _______________________________________________
