Most of what you need is just remote control then. The Client side is just VNC so you need an admin account – with a darn good user name and password because it WILL be probed – or even better something that connects only to your IP from his, like AlmostVPN ( http://www.leapingbytes.com/almostvpn) -  and then use something like ChickenoftheVNC or JollysFastVNC or something.

And of course enough bandwidth at both ends – and you might want to set the far machine to boot every night or something so that it’s always prompted to come on when needed.
