Thank you for all the immediate replies - on and off list.
If I get serious with this, it's clear I'll have a lot of homework to
do... likewise that I'll need a broadband connection straight off.
My initial post was predicated on a very painful telephone 'coaching'
session with my father yesterday during which little or nothing useful
was achieved. We both ended up frustrated and edgy. If similar can be
avoided somehow, it would be a gawdsend.
Before I can do a whole lot more, I will have to 'negotiate' with him
further to see if he wants to pursue the scheme or not, and whether he
wants to stick with the PC, or switch to a Mac.
If I can't talk him into a Mac, I'll have another steep learning curve
with PC setup and maintenance. But I have a very patient and helpful
friend who would probably help me with that.
(Sorry... just thinking out loud.)
