Once again, my thanks for all the helpful replies.
And once again, I have to say, being so wet behind the ears, I will
have
to do a lot more homework before I attempt even making a simple
connection with (e.g. Chicken of the VNC).
My Dad will also be a 'sticking point' for the time being in that he
may
not be able to readily supply me an IP address for his current
computer -
on Windows XP. For that matter, I don't know what password I would
use
to gain entry if I had the IP address... the primary (machine) user
password?
And he is not someone who can be 'hurried'. He's been so frustrated
for
so long by his home computer's non-cooperation that he doesn't even
want
to go near it... at least not often. It may be some time before I can
convince him to try this scheme.
So, while I might be chock full of additional questions at this point
(even though they may be off-topic), my hands are tied for the moment,
and I think it may be a weeks or months long process just to get set
up.
However, I'm (more or less) determined to give a VNC implementation a
try, and will likely be back with more questions at some point in the
future.
Here's one last dumb one for now...
I don't yet have Leopard, so don't have access to Screen Sharing.
Would
it be possible to test Chicken of the VNC over a local Airport network
between two Macs?
Absolutely. Below is a link that seems to be pretty thorough on setup
from start to finish. It is based on Tiger though.
