Related to this situation of not letting you authenticate certain new computers, I have seen that. The latest case of it was when I tried to add a new computer but it was assigned an IP address that had been used by another computer in the past.
So that I don't give inaccurate info, I just tried to add a computer that I know has the same IP address as one had in the semi-recent past. Low and behold, it wouldn't let me. When I tried to drag it to a computer list, I got the authentication box briefly and then it went back up.
So I clicked on my "All Computers" list and I found an old entry for an old computer that has the same IP address as the one I am trying to add. I am able to click on that old one that is still in the "All Computers" list and using Command I, I can change the user name and password and gain control of the new one.
The other possibility is to simply remove the old one from the "All Computers" list and then add the new one.
This might explain why you can add them under a different Admin account or a different computer altogether.

In fact, when I just tried it on another computer that I suspected might do the same thing
