Thanks again Marc. You make it sound like they always worked, except for
updating the TXT record after registering.

According to this post, referring to OS 10.2.1:

"setProtocolSpecificInformation does not (I'm told) push anything down
to mDNSResponder, making it basically useless."

So, if it didn't work back then, when did it started working?
