On the Mac, I can open Safari and type "http://mymachinename.local." in
the URL line, press return and my machine's web page will appear. This
is because the Mac knows how to pass the .local. domain to the mDNS
resolver, not the normal DNS resolver (Note that nslookup WON'T work).
This does NOT work on Windows (I understand that it will work in
Longhorn). Is it possible to write a plug-in to the Windows networking
to make this work? Has someone already done this? Is there a
commercial/shareware/freeware/opensource patch that can be installed
(and distributed with our application) that will allow the same
functionality on Windows?
Thanks,
