Updated mDNSResponder code and Conformance Test

Rendezvous Developers,

I'm pleased to announce the release of the Panther mDNSResponder source code and a new version of the Rendezvous Conformance Test. When doing any Rendezvous development, please use the Darwin tar file linked from the following page...

<http://developer.apple.com/darwin/projects/rendezvous/>

That page will always contain the most stable, approved build of the mDNSResponder source code. The Panther release is known as mDNSResponder-58 and you can download it here...

<http://www.opensource.apple.com/darwinsource/tarballs/apsl/ mDNSResponder-58.tar.gz>

This new release contains bug fixes and lots of optimizations to reduce packet rate and to reduce CPU usage. It also adds IPv6 support, subtype query support, the ability to find all services being advertised on the network, and the ability to query individual machines to get information about the mDNSResponder version, the hardware, and the operating system version of the target machine. It also contains improvements to speed up the purging of stale records.

I highly encourage any developer using the old version of mDNSResponder code to update to this release. It's really solid. If you've already added Rendezvous to your product and it hasn't shipped yet, please consider updating to this new code.

When using the new code, you'll need to use the most recent version of the Rendezvous Conformance Test, version 1.2. You can download it from here...

In conjunction with the release of Mac OS X Panther, we've also released some new Technical Q&As which relate to changes in the mDNSCore code as well as changes that affect the Mac OS X Rendezvous APIs, like CFNetServices, NSNetServices, and DNSServiceDiscovery. You can find the Q&As at the Rendezvous Developer Web Site...

Enjoy and thanks for supporting Rendezvous!

-Marc
