What I'm looking for:
It would be great if someone could point me in the right direction to
the Linux equivalent of the DNSServiceDiscovery API. I've looked at
Libinfo-173 but haven't had any luck building it (on Linux). It sounds
like what I need - "Low level C API for registration of services with
mDNSResponder" - so maybe I just need some help getting it built.
Background (if you're interested):
I've been working with Rendezvous for about a month now, following the
mailing list and what I can find on the web since last fall. I
currently have an application with a Cocoa client and a server that is
designed to be cross platform, supporting OS X, Linux, and WinXP. All
this is in place and I'm now working on incorporating Rendezvous into
the system for the usual service discovery benefits. The OS X build of
the server registers with the responder and the client finds it
perfectly, unsurprisingly. The next step is to get the Linux version
of the server working.
I have the mDNSResponder running as a daemon on my test box -
compiling the posix mDNS was fairly easy, and I added it to the
default runlevel with a config file that included advertising ssh. All
this was, for the most part, trivial.
Thanks for any help!
Sincerely,
Wil Turner
