Do have a look at Apple's implementation on Windows and see if you can
standardize on that. I know it incorporates a lot of subtlelties in
the protocol negotiation that show up on large networks. At the least
read the code and see whatit is doing, but there is a significant
advantage to using a system wide responer rtaher than multiple ones on
the same machine.
