Re: Problem (socket connect failing) with DNSServiceDiscovery API on FreeBSD4

Is there a way to use the dns_sd.h api, and build the daemon into your application? I'll have a hard time selling this to my cto if we have to ship two binaries.

Hi, Michael. If you are planning to ship more than one program that uses mDNS, you'll want to run the daemon so that you get the efficiency benefits of having a single cache, etc.

mDNSPosix does not currently include an embedded implementation of the dns_sd.h API. However, several of the example programs (mDNSClientPosix, mDNSResponderPosix, etc.) demonstrate how to embed the daemon functionality into a single program. Some embedded device vendors have found that for very simple applications (e.g. advertising a web service for a printer), all they have to do is run one of the examples with the right command line parameters at startup.
