What version of the mDNSResponder distribution are you using? Later versions include an NSS module to do exactly this.

here is what I'm using, I think that's latest version;

kalou@ge pwd
/usr/src/mDNSResponder-58.8

grepping for "nss or pam" inside the README.txt or through
the filenames listing gave me nothing ... I'm probably
missing something obvious to everyone..
