Re: Linux mdnsd Question -- Linux to Linux not working

Michael,

So it's clear that each machine is not seeing the other machine's packets. Do you have a Firewall blocking UDP port 5353?

Hello,

Included below is the mDNSNetMonitor output from 2 linux machines scorpius and unukalhai. Scorpius is looking for _x10._udp and _argusd._udp services. Unukalhai is providing an _x10._udp service. Unfortunately, unukalhai's service is not found by scorpius.(?)

This is probably something real simple that most have done on Linux, but I have seemed to skip over somewhere (hopefully). Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael,

I looked through what archives I could find and on the Web, but have not found an answer to this problem...

I cannot see Rendezvous registered objects between 2 Linux machines. I am running the latest CVS version of mdnsd (mDNSResponder) on SUSE 9.1 Pro and RedHat 9.0. I can see objects between OS X and Linux on the same network, but not Linux to Linux.

I have turned off iptables/ipchains. Again, I can see objects between OS X and Linux, just not Linux to Linux. I can find also objects on the same machine just fine.

Does anyone have any insight?

Can you run mDNSNetMonitor while these machines are running, and then send us the output. If you could identify which IP address corresponds to which machine, that would be great. Thanks.
