C'mon guys, this is a technical mailing list, not a marketing list. Let's
stay on topic.
Call it Fred for all I care.

Ok, so clearly you don't want this discussed.
I wanted to be the second to comment on how terrible it is, but I need a
bit of clarification, first. Is it the official position of Apple that
opinions which are critical of a marketing decision as lame as the
Bonjour name change are forbidden on this mailing list, or is it just
your personal desire to moderate "an entire thread about name change
opinions"...? And whether this request comes from you personally, or is
Apple's policy, would you also object to a big long thread praising the
wisdom and oohing and ahhing at the unbridled cleverness of this
decision?

You can easily avoid the thread without restricting the free speech of
others. You can simply ignore the thread in your mailreader. You can
killfile the communications of those whom you wish to ignore. You can
turn off the computer. If you wish to *defend* the new name, feel free
to participate in the discussion and do just that. But to attempt to
*protect* it by imply that opinions with which you disagree are not
suitable for this list is sort of Orwellian of you isn't it, especially
as a representative of Apple...

For the record, on which forums *may* we post our opinions, and which
ones were restricted to technical discussions of the software? I must
have missed that provision in the mailing list welcome message.... Are
there sanctioned, segregated lists designated for alternately praising
or criticizing marketing decisions such as this?
Thanks in advance for your response,
