latency vs duration

Hi Everyone,

I recently discovered the Web inspector built into Safari.  As a newbie, I am very impressed.

I do have a question regarding latency versus duration. The help describes ‘duration as the time it takes the resource to load’ while latency is the ‘delay between requesting the resource and getting the first byte’.

So to clarify my understanding, is the following statement true

A MIME that is in the application cache should have zero latency.

If I am correct on that then can I say that the duration (time to load  a resource) is unaffected by whether the object is local in the cache or retrieved from the server.  Or does duration also include latency?
