Welcome John M! Was Re: Apple lays of SciTech marketing manager

As a SciTech person at a government site, I would like to welcome John Martellaro back to Apple and our SciTech community nightmare.

Many of you may remember John's very progressive Science and Technology Industry Advisory Group. As Apple's Senior Marketing Manager Science & Technology Markets, he very actively asked for input from SciTech developers and users and pushed for tools we all need and want. I think we all have benefited from his efforts.

I look forward to John's efforts on our behalf, even if (currently?) limited to government markets.

I hope we can all continue to educate Apple on the vital role this community plays in the Macintosh world and look forward to the day that Apple management 'gets it' and more actively supports our efforts and prominently touts our collective and individual accomplishments via dedicated easily-found SciTech web pages again.

Greetings from Apple Federal, my first post to this list. As Ernie
says, we're reluctant to comment on internal matters for obvious
reasons, but a good news story is that we've hired John Martellaro (jm
AT apple.com) to handle the FFRDCs (Federally Funded Research &
Development Centers). For those of you know know John, he brings a
wealth of scientific knowledge & many, many years of technical
experience to helping our growing scientific markets, albeit more
focused in government in this specific case.

Apple has laid off Morgan Simpson, the Senior Manager for Science and
Technology Markets at Apple. This wouldn't seem to bode well for
SciTech at Apple. It appears that there may be no person responsible
for this at Apple now (I hope I am incorrect, and further, that Apple
hasn't decided that its normal channel staff and "Pro" marketing is a
worthy replacement). First the SciTech web site disappears when, if
anything, it should be expanding; and now this. Perhaps someone from
Apple can comment on its commitment to these markets? Mac OS X and
related products may be great for the sciences, engineering, etc., but
you can't expect to do nothing internally to support these specialty
 marketplaces.
