Mac OS X 10.3 Java class error vs 10.2.8

I have a Java application that works in 10.2.8 (an a G4 laptop) but will not work in 10.3.2 (on a G4 desktop).

(The application is the remote iClient v1.4 for LLNL's NARAC atmospheric dispersion code in case any of you are familiar with it. I use this code on an almost daily basis.)

The application v1.3 worked on the desktop machine before upgrading to 10.3, but I hadn't run it on the desktop machine since upgrading the OS 3 days ago. I just installed the new application version on both machines today.

I get the following error in the Terminal window, which seems to be non-fatal because the application then gives me a login screen.

"java[15121] Java couldn't paint in Java_apple_awt_CRenderer_doRect, no focused view."

However, after entering my login information and clicking "OK" I get a Java class definition error and the program terminates.

The fatal error which prints in the Terminal window after login is:
"java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/xml/serialize/OutputFormat"

followed by 6 messages that seem to point to lines in the application code that generate errors due to the missing class.

Does the 10.3.2 Java contain fewer classes than the newest Java in 10.2.8? The newest Java I can find on both machines is 1.4.1.

Any ideas?

David
