Thanks for the information.

Unfortunately, none of that is evident from the man page on OS X (in
Panther, at least).  I looked for some memory management options, but they
just don't appear in the OS X version.  I thus assumed that they must not
exist in Apple's version of "sort".

I'm glad to hear I was wrong.
