Poll question:

If you have installed fink which is true for you:
[ ] Fink has caused SERIOUS problems building or using standard OS X software (difficult or impossible to work without uninstalling Fink)
[ ] Fink has caused MINOR problems building or using standard OS X software (easy work around with command line switch or shell variable)
[ ] Fink has enabled use of LOTS of useful open source software without interfering with standard OS X software
[ ] Fink has enabled use of SOME open source software without interfering with standard OS X software
[ ] Fink HASN'T HELPED OR HURT use of standard OS software.
[ ] What the heck is Fink?

[ x] Other, Fink has caused problems for program writers (like gcc), I can point to at
least one GCC bug which is caused by how fink sets some environment variable while building
and also how dlcompat was installed but now longer need for 10.3.

Where do you prefer Fink install libs: [ ] /usr/local [ ] /sw [ ] Use the OS X "frameworks" mechanism [ ] Who is this Fink and what's a lib?

[x] Other: does not matter as long as they get building of libraries right.

How do you use your Fink? [ ] Aqua apps only [ ] Aqua and X11 apps [ ] Aqua and command line tools [ ] Aqua, X11, and command line tools [ ] Now I'm really cheesed off - what the heck is Fink?

[X ] Other, I do not use Fink because of the problems I see it cause with other people and
developers such as virex and really with GCC which is where I always see the most problems (but then again I am GCC developer and I believe in installing by source and by hand).

Thanks, Andrew Pinski email@hidden a gcc bug master _______________________________________________ scitech mailing list | email@hidden Help/Unsubscribe/Archives: http://www.lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/scitech Do not post admin requests to the list. They will be ignored.
