Nobody is disagreeing with you. While in some cases it may be useful for developers to look at the fink patches to software to speed things up, in most cases they are better off building libraries themselves, using the -headerpad_max_install_names ld flag, and then changing them to @executable_path/..... with install_name_tool.


Fink is aimed at users, developers should be able to solve their packaging issues without relying on the user having fink installed. install_name_tool is cool. The man pages for ld are really quite good, although I can understand that reading man pages is a unix style thing to do and some of you may not like to do that, so if you want, a 'darwin man ld' search on google will probably show you the same thing :-p. Look for the man pages for install_name_tool too.
