I've not tried it myself, but it's a sure thing that AppleScript/Events and Automator will be supported. Hence, the simplest way to interface with your own program is to have it put its results files into a 'watched' folder.

In this vein, how much actual technical math can you do with AppleScript? Are there fancy math functions in some OSAX? Could you write, say, a Lagrangian interpolation routine or searching or sorting functions in AppleScript? I only ask because I have some of this stuff in VBA with Excel, and I'm concerned that I might be forced to re-write all that stuff in Applescript or else not upgrade Excel.

Our company Satimage-software provides several scientific tools for AppleScript, including a general-purpose scientific osax (Numerics.osax), specialized osax (e.g. special functions), and a fulfledged scientific graphical environment, Smile. Furthermore, Satimage-software provides (bundled with Smile) templates for XCode for making your own existing computational code into an osax fairly easily.
