I am actually on the GPIB beta testing list testing NI488.2 Version
2.4.5 for MacIntel. Due to my regular duties I unfortunately don't
have much time for the testing and I get the impression that this
particular beta program is not very active. This could possibly be
viewed by NI as a reason for not really pushing the activities. The
driver supports PCI, PCIe and GPIB-ENET. Here an excerpt of the beta
readme document:

I actually use a GPIB-ENET box from NI to drive a variety of GPIB
instruments across a network and this has so far worked well for what
I have done. However, generally I agree; there would be a greater
supply of USB and possibly also for IEEE1394 DAQ devices and
particiularly an image acquisition solution for the Mac too.
Just keep on requesting and actively participate in beta programs to
get things moving. As far as I can see, if it's not for a high sales
volume active beta testers are mostly the reason why NI still offers
us Mac users at least some continued support. I am personally very
thankful for this and it wold be nice if NI's engagement would also
be honored by some increasing sales for the Apple platform as well.
Even though the GPIB-ENET solution is not a cheap one, I went for it
and have so fa not regretted it at all.
I hope this will help you a bit with your decisions and yes I very
well understand why you would like to perform more DAQ tasks with
native MacOSX, I am personally not a friend of any type of
virtualized bloatware OSes that clutter disk space and other domains
too.

I'm currently setting up some new GPIB-enabled instruments in my
lab. Ideally, I'd like to hook them to some iMacs (i.e., I can't use
any PCI-like card). I'm aware of USB and Ethernet adaptors for GPIB
interfaces. But many of these seem to only have Windows drivers --
and I'd rather not use Parallels, VMWare, or Boot Camp.
So here's my question. What's the current state of drivers/support
for National Instruments GPIB interfaces on Mac. Are they Leopard
compatible? I'm not necessarily tied to National Instruments and
LabView, so if there's other solutions, I'd like to hear some
suggestions.
Thanks in advance for any help!
