Timbuktu can be configured to make "secure" connections, in which case _all_ traffic is tunneled through SSH. Works fine through our firewall.

Interesting. I downloaded the trial version, but couldn't get it to work, so I contacted Netopia technical support. They told me I need to enable access to port 407, or else use Skype (which is strictly forbidden on French research networks exactly because it permits to circumvent firewalls).


If I remember correctly, the problem is creating a "registered user account", once that is done I should be able connect through ssh only. But I can't create a registered user account without already having access to a GUI screen. Physical access to the machines requires a two-hour drive, so I didn't try.
