X11 works fine indeed, but most GUI programs for the Mac don't use X11. With OpenSource programs it would probably be possible (though tedious) to compile everything for X11, but we are also considering getting a Mathematica license, and I doubt that Wolfram provides an X11 version for the Mac.


machine. I don't know if this would fix your French keyboard problem. But can you not set the keyboard layout on the cluster machines to be the same as the keyboard you're using with your desktop?

With free VNC, that doesn't work.
