Timbuktu can be configured to make "secure" connections, in which case _all_ traffic is tunneled through SSH. Works fine through our firewall.

If I remember correctly, the problem is creating a "registered user account", once that is done I should be able connect through ssh only. But I can't create a registered user account without already having access to a GUI screen. Physical access to the machines requires a two-hour drive, so I didn't try.

Have someone _at_ the site create a base registered user account. You can
then log in to it and do (quite literally) anything you could do if you were sitting at the keyboard, including creating additional accounts, changing passwords and even changing the master password in Timbuktu.
