I too have been using DevonThinkPro for organizing
and semi-automatically grouping 'papers' (PDFs
and sometimes 'web archives').
Search and grouping functions in DTP are fast
and work pretty well.

One thing that I requested was a customizable viewing
and reformatting mechanism. For instance, most
papers in my fields have the typical 2-column layout
except for abstract / intro.  What if I want to see
this on my laptop in full-screen mode in a singular
column fashion, without reformatting and resaving
the documents. Another is a decentralized database,
so the actual 'media' can be on other locations other
than the local machine.

Thanks for the pointers to Papers. Love the fact that
it has sort columns for authors, journals, etc.

Thanks for the pointer!  Also worth a mention is Sente:

It's a similar sort of program, with some built-in bibliography
functionality.  I've been using it for over a year now, and I like it
very much.

That said, I'll echo Charles.  More and more, I just Google Scholar
everything when I need it.  Sente's becoming more of just a reference
management tool for me.

What I'd really like is something that does what Sente and Pages do,
along with the ability to organize and relate notes about the papers,
which I currently use DevonThink for.
