Hi all
Thanks to the list for a way to gain understanding of DSS and
playlistbroadcaster beyond the documentation
My goal:
Assume I have a video source ( either hinted movie or realtime video from
Sorensen broadcaster ). I'd like to multicast to most of my consumers, but
some will want to take a break or repeat some critical section. In
otherwords, they'll want to drop out of the mulicast and then request
unicast with some short time delay.
If the source is an existing hinted quicktime movie then I can
programatically provide a user with a SDP file reference that resumes the
movie at the time they went to the bathroom etc. But if the source is
realtime video relay then I don't know how to solve the problem.
1 Does anyone know of a realtime capture tool that can dynamically create
a hinted quicktime movie that is playable while the movie is being built.?
2 Does anyone know of simple relay software that has a built in
controlled delay factor ( controlled buffering ?)
3 Has anyone worked with these issues, I'm still not even clear on how
big a problem I face. I'd like to stay with Darwin/Quicktime, but I am not
completely locked in if the competitors can do this more easily.
4 Although I can programatically create consumer SDP files to tune back
in after a few minutes delay, I'd rather use RTSP urls directly. Does
anyone know of a good writeup on using switches in the RSTP url to start a
movie at time x etc.
5 My experience is more networking than programming, and I like to
understand Darwin/streaming etc. behavior from a network analysis point of
view. Has anyone found a set of parsers for network analysis tools for RTP
and RTSP protocols.
6 With the help of the list I was able to get some insight into multicast
issues. I wrote up some simple illustrated end user notes on multiccast
configuration issues and some annotated network analysis of various aspects
of Darwin. If they can be of help to anyone please email.
Thanks in advance
