Re: Problem with Steaming Media Server

The DevNotes.html file in the source Documentation directory needs to be updated. QTSS/DSS (version 3.0 and higher) stores its config in /etc/streaming and the config file is called "streamingserver.xml".

Also what ports besides 1220 do I need to have setup on the
OS and is it TCP or UDP or both?

The TCP ports the server listens on are: 554, 7070, and 8000. (The latter for mp3 streaming)
The UDP ports that the server needs to send to on the client are in the range 6970-6999. These ports are for RTP data sent from the server to the client.

You don't have to set up anything on the OS other than running the DarwinStreamingServer process as root so that it can bind to port 554. If your client is behind a firewall, you will have to allow udp traffic to those ports for streaming over udp.

Hi,

First off your documentation for setting up Streaming Media
 Server needs to be detailed.

I have compile the Darwin Streaming media Server on Solaris x86
ok. But the doc's states the following:

On UNIX platforms, the server reads its preferences from a config file. A default config file, streamingserver.conf, comes with both the source and binary packages. The server looks for this file at etc/streamingserver.conf, so you must copy it to the /etc directory before starting the server.

Sorry but I don't find where streamingserver.conf file is at:

/usr/local/dev/DSS-4_1_1.src
# find . -depth -name streamingserver.conf -print
#

As you see I did try to find it. But the source didn't contain
the file any suggestion. Also where can I find documentation
on this file.

Also what ports besides 1220 do I need to have setup on the
OS and is it TCP or UDP or both?
