Well, I got QTSS3 up and running on MacOS 9. I had to make a couple of
small changes to the QTSS code and to GUSI which is the UNIX pouch QTSS
sits in.
Using QT 5, streaming QT movies works just fine with no perceptible
delays, sputtering etc (of course a lot depends on the machine your
running on). However, when I try and stream a MPEG movie that has been
hinted using QT5 Player Pro (using the server hinting option), the thing
sputters like crazy with a lot of skipping and sound coming and going. I
think this may have to do with the fact that I'm using cooperative
threads (no other option on MacOS 9) but it may also be affected by the
lack of a dedicated cache that I understand is provided by UNIX. Another
factor may be memory.
I'm just tossing this message up to the lists so anybody who might have
some clues as what might be happening regarding poor MPEG streaming can
save me some time looking.
Thanks!
Alin Pilkington :)
