Re: Web Link to MP3 Stream for Windows clients

You'll need to be sure that a MIME type is set up for .pls files in your Web server. (audio/scpls or audio/x-scpls)

Thanks for response, John. I'll check out the Perl library.

I must not be creating a link properly, because if I click on a link to an
mp3 playlist using IE on a PC WITHOUT Quicktime, it simply displays the
contents of the .pls file the links points to. I created the playlist link
using the following code from another user on this list. If there is
another way to do it, I'm ready to be schooled. Is there a good document on
these things?

***from here***
[playlist]
File1=http://your.own.site:8000/nameofplaylist
Title1=Playlist Title
Length1=-1

NumberOfEntries=1
Version=2
***end here***

I put the above code in a text file called PlaylistName.pls and created a
link to it on a web page. It works fine with a Mac and iTunes or a PC w/QT
player, but PCs without QT just display the text above.

Mac OS X Server features WebDAV support, but this is only a file system
standard. QTSS Admin doesn't support multiple users at this point, so
you would need to give everybody the administrator password in order for
them to set up playlists with our UI...

We do include (and use) a Perl library called playlist-lib, which you
can use to manipulate playlists on your own. One solution is to use Perl
to create your own CGIs for your websites, and integrate playlist-lib
support into them.

As for opening the link in Windows Media Player (or WinAmp, for that
matter) that will all depend on what the end-user has selected as the
handler for MP3 client playlists. If they've set up WiMP to handle their
MP3 stuff, then it will launch when the user clicks on the link. Same
goes for Macs using Audion, QT, or MacAmp instead of iTunes.

Hi,

With the help of some people on this list, I was able to set up my
QTSS 4
server and create links in HTML that will open up an MP3 playlist in
iTunes
on the Mac or in QT Player on my PC running Win2K. Thanks for the
help,everyone! I would like to create a link that will open up a
playlist
in Windows Media Player on the PC since most of my PC users do not have
QT
installed. Can anyone shed some light on a solution?

I would also like to find a way for users to upload MP3's through a web
page
and then create playlists. Is there a package out there that will do
this?
Has anyone done this on their own? I was thinking maybe using Webdav
through OSX server? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Take care,
