Re: Novice question - QTSS 4 PB won't work

Hi Georg,

I know that this is a novice question but I do not see any other way of
solving my problem. I am running QTSS 4 PB on an iMac with Mac OS X Server
10.1.1, but it won't work! I have set up the server with a MP3 playlist.

Comments below...

1. There is no sdp file created from the server. (this is is the case when I
create movie playlists)

There is no sdp file created for MP3 broadcasts... they are not relayed as rtsp streams.

2. What do I have to enter as mounting point? Is a sdp file needed for a mp3
playlist?

See above :-) The mount point is whatever you'll enter into your MP3 client (such as iTunes)... I'll explain more after question 4. For the example below, set your mount point to "/myreallygoodmusic"

3. Do I need to enable relaying?

The relay is for movie broadcasts... it's completely separate from MP3 reflection.

4. Last but not least, I thought I could then receive the stream via iTunes.
Do I enter the IP address of the server or a multicast one?

Once you've started the playlist in the UI, open iTunes and choose Open Stream from the Advanced menu. Then enter your server address in the following format:

http://my.server.addr:8000/myreallygoodmusic

iTunes defaults to port 80, so you'll need to enter 8000 explicitly. If you don't want to do so, you can turn on "Streaming on Port 80" in the Ports prefs... but be aware that it will interfere with any Web servers running on the same machine, since those run on port 80 also.

Good luck!

John Anderson
