Re: Novice question - QTSS 4 PB won't work

1. While listening to my stream, I sniffered the packets with "Etherpeek"
and found out that there was a direct TCP connection between the server and
the client. This would mean that it was unicast, wouldn't it? If yes, is
multicast possible with MP3 playlists?

Shoutcast-style MP3 streams (the ones used by most MP3 players) are an HTTP stream... the transactions for these streams are just like an infinitely large Web download. I can't think of a way to set up multicast with MP3... the HTTP standard doesn't allow for it. The only way to do multicast would be to convert your MP3 files to QuickTime format and stream them as movies to the QuickTime Player.

2. Now I am also trying to stream a film? Is here relyaing necessary? What
is the default port for video streaming?

The default port is 554, and you can stream on port 80 as well if you turn it on in the Ports preferences. Additional ports can be added by modifying the streamingserver.xml file. If you're streaming a film directly from your server to the client machines, then no relaying is necessary. Relaying is only needed when you're streaming from a server farm, or using Multicast.
