Greetings all,
I am a new member of this group and a bit of a novice, but I hope you can
bear with me. I have been charged with producing a monthly webcast of a
training class for our clients. The sound quality of our webcast is great,
but the video is terrible, even at small resolutions.
We're currently broadcasting at 320x240 and management wants bigger and
sharper, even at the expense of higher bandwidth. We broadcast a computer
image from a Titanium G4 powerbook (outputting 800x600 via s-video) and
multiple camera signals all switching through a Sony input switcher. The
s-video and composite video outs run from there into an InterView box (video
to usb converter), which then runs into our Blue G4 (400mhz, 320mb) OS X
server running 10.2.5 with QTSS and QTB. We've tried broadcasting using
mpeg4 as well as Sorenson codecs and can never get satisfactory image
quality.
I'm curious which part is the weak link in our setup and what would be the
simplest/most cost-effective way to improve the image quality. Is the usb
connection the weak point, choking away video quality? Would we greatly
benefit from a video capture card and/or firewire video converter? We don't
mind a data rate of well over 200 kb/sec so long as the computer text is
legible.
Thanks!
Chris Lawrence
