Re: Problems with broadcasterctl

This is more of an issue with Mach Messages... it uses these to communicate with the broadcaster. If you're a techy/geeky type like me and want to know what's going on "behind the scenes," check out the broadcaster_lib.pl script in the AdminHtml folder. While the broadcasterctl source isn't public, this Perl library is an almost exact port.

Is there a way to run QuickTime Broadcaster from GUI and then background
it? If you set LSUIElement (previously NSUIElement), and then launch
it, all you can do is minimize it, which although it doesn't show in the
normal Dock, it still shows as a minimized application that can be
brought to the front. I believe you USED to be able to set LSUIElement
and still have control of Tool Bars at the top, so that you could set
LSUIElement, launch an App, and then "Hide" it, and you would be set.
Now LSUIElement seems to disable Dock AND ToolBar.

Just trying to figure a way to get around broadcasterctl not working
right for me.

QT Broadcaster must be running in daemon (background) mode in order to

I am seeing the same behavior as Alan. broadcasterctl is definitely
got
issues. I can use the GUI and use Broadcaster just fine. If i try to
use broadcasterctl, it wont show video as "Enabled". If I start the
GUI
up, and then try to use broadcasterctl, that works, but that doesnt
keep
it backgrounded with the -noui option like it would have had i used
"broadcasterctl launch".

Does anyone know why this happens? I have tried this with a G4 using
QuickCam 4000, G3 (imac SE) using QuickCam 4000, and a G4 using
Firewire
to Sony DV CAM.

This is repeat. Earlier I put the following note up here with no
response. Trying again.

--------------------------------------------

I am having an odd problem with broadcasterctl.

I'm operating on a 450 Mhz G4 running 10.2.6 Sever. I am using a
Imaging Source DF1394 Firewire capture device and
an iMic audio converter.

[ And today I moved it all to a dual 1GB XServer -
same peripherals - same problem ]
I wish to use broadcasterctl to set up unattended operation. Here is
my problem.

If I setup manually from the GUI everything works.

If I use broadcasterctl to launch QuickTime Broadcaster
I can stream audio, or video but not both.
When I try to do both it only gives me audio.

Now the weird part. If I start the broadcaster without the -noui
option then I can control it from broadcasterctl.

i.e. this works - sh xx where xx contains.

echo "Starting Broadcast"

'/Applications/QuickTime Broadcaster.app/Contents/MacOS/Quicktime
Broadcaster' &

echo "Sleeping"

sleep 30

broadcasterctl \
   -f '/Users/Admin/Library/QuickTime
Broadcaster/BroadcasterPresets.qtbr' \
    -a LanStudent -v LanStudent -n LanStudent -t av config

broadcasterctl start

Although that works it means that the machine has to have the QuickTime Broadcaster user logged in all the time. If try to do the sh xx method without the user logged on at the display I get error messages when QuickTime Broadcaster trys to open it's GUI.

I have tried this with QuickTime Broadcaster versions 1 and 1.0.1

I have also tried it on G3, running 10.2.6 (Not Sever) where
everything
works as expected.

Any advice
---------------------------------------------------------

Further to that note I have discovered that for reasons that I have
not
been
able to determine, when I stop broadcastctl . using first stop and
then
quit
every once in a while it goes ahead and rewrites

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple/QuickTime Broadcaster.plist

which generally wrecks my unattended operation. I tried setting
ownership to root and
access to read only, but something - I presume QuickTime Broadcaster -
resets it to
rw to Admin.

To keep unattended operation going I am now copying a new

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple/QuickTime Broadcaster.plist

into place before starting the Broadcaster. This is getting
ridiculous.
