Yes, John, Cygwin is running when the hang happens. I'll try running without it and see if it helps.

Are you actually running DSS under Cygwin when the problem happens? Have you tried running it under the normal Windows command prompt? The reason I ask is that, as much as I like Cygwin for making Windows machines more civilized (we used it all of the time where I used to work, and it rocked), occasionally it seems to cause problems, at least from my experience.
